Land Acknowledgement

 Land Acknowledgement

Although we acquire permission from land-owners before collecting materials, we recognize that the land upon which we live and work was stolen from its original inhabitants. We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Dakota and Anishinaabe people who are the original stewards and caretakers of this land.

We are here because we are interested in the places around us and the resources found within them. We believe it’s important for everyone who collects wild materials to take a moment to reflect on the relationship that indigenous cultures have had with the land for hundreds of years before us.

We understand that this acknowledgement is just the first step in righting the wrongs committed against indigenous peoples. We hope that by spreading this message we can help raise awareness in all our students and continue moving forward in the right direction together.

In recognizing that our work takes place on Native land, we are offering one 50% tuition scholarship for each of our in-person workshops for people of Indigenous heritage. Please email us at studio.alluvium@gmail.com with the subject line “Scholarship” and your preferred class for more details. Please check the scholarship status on the class description before inquiring. This scholarship is available on a first-come, first-serve basis until the class reaches capacity.

If the class fills before the scholarship is claimed, the proceeds from that scholarship will be donated to a local Indigenous-led non-profit organization.
